Bamboo FlooringA super-stylish and exceptionally strong alternative to hardwood flooring
Choose Bamboo Flooring
Valley Carpet One in Van Nuys is home to a wide selection of wood flooring options, including bamboo flooring. Bamboo flooring is becoming more and more popular in homes as an alternative to traditional hardwood. How does bamboo compare to hardwood?
One of the most apparent differences between bamboo and hardwood is the natural appearance. Bamboo features natural, sophisticated patterns of dark bands and modules, and these patterns contrast with the more standard and uniform appearance of hardwood. Also, bamboo flooring usually has a natural blonde hue, although it can be carbonized for a darker tone. As you can imagine, bamboo flooring is perfect for those who want to add unique style to their home settings.
In addition, bamboo flooring tends to be more durable than hardwood. It is more dimensionally stable than wood, so bamboo actually expands and contracts 50% less. As a result, it can handle moisture and humidity better than hardwood. Nevertheless, bamboo is not considered waterproof, so we don’t recommend it for kitchens and bathrooms. Furthermore, because bamboo is harder than wood, it dents less on impact. Bamboo therefore can handle heavy foot traffic and other environmental pressures better than hardwood flooring.
Like hardwood, bamboo flooring can be finished to protect against scratches and other surface blemishes. And, bamboo is available in engineered constructions that are similar to engineered hardwood constructions. Engineered bamboo flooring has a durable top layer and multiple support layers, so it is stronger and more stable than solid bamboo. Some engineered bamboo floors, especially those made from solid bamboo strands, are dense and heavy enough for commercial settings.
